![]() | Simone de Beauvoir was born in Paris on the 9th of January 1908 and died there on the 14th of Apris 1986, six years after her hisband, Jean-Paul Sartre. Numerous exhibitions that recount her life and her love for Jean-Paul Satre whom she would often meet in secret in an old hotel or somewhere in the area. These exhibitions are usually held in the Office de Tourisme in St Germain les Belles.

Arsène d’Arsonval | |||
![]() | Arsène d’Arsonval was born in June 1851 at the Domaine de la Borie in La Porcherie. He began studying medicine in Limoges and finished his studies in Paris where he met Claude Bernard, a physiologist and professor at the Collège de France. Thus he was able to get into the Collège de France where he would spend his entire scientific career until his retirement in 1930. His most known work concerned electrophysiology especially the medical aspect of it known as 'd’arsonvalisation'. Despite all this, D'Arsonval devoted eight years of his life to La Porcherie as Mayor from 1882 to 1900. It is at the Domaine de la Borie that d'Arsonval passed away on the 31st of December 1940 and he now rests in a chapel in the woods by his two wives. The Domaine de la Borie is now open to the public during the 'Journées du Patrimoine" thanks to an agreement with the Collège de France that owns the estate.
